Auf der ganzen Welt haben Menschen Anteil genommen am Tod Georg Ratzingers. Seinen Bruder, den emeritierten Papst Benedikt XVI., erreichten zahlreiche Briefe, Gebete und Beileidsbekundungen. Für all die Anteilnahme sprach der emeritierte Papst seinen herzlichen Dank aus. Seine emotionalen Worte hat Erzbischof Georg Gänswein tränenbewegt im Regensburger Dom vorgetragen.
„Mein Dank gilt auch all denen, die sichtbar oder unsichtbar in diesen Wochen bei ihm waren und ihm ihre Dankbarkeit für das gezeigt haben, was er in seinem Leben für sie getan und erlitten hat.
Das Echo auf sein Leben und Wirken, das ich in diesen Tagen in Form von Briefen, Telegrammen und e-mails erhalten habe, geht weit über das hinaus, was ich mir hatte vorstellen können. Menschen aus vielen Ländern, aus allen Ständen und Berufen haben mir geschrieben in einer Weise, die mein Herz berührte. Jedem einzelnen müßte eigentlich eine persönliche Antwort zukommen. Dazu fehlen mir leider Zeit und Kraft, und ich kann nur bei dieser Gelegenheit allen danken für das Mitgehen in diesen Stunden und Tagen. Der Satz von Kardinal Newman bewahrheitet sich für mich gerade jetzt: „Cor ad cor loquitur.“ Durch das Papier hindurch und über alles Papierne hinaus spricht Herz zu Herz.“

People all over the world have shared their sympathy at the passing of Georg Ratzinger. His brother, Pope emeritus Benedict XVI, has received numerous letters, prayers and expressions of condolences.
